Jeweler's Row is the oldest diamond district in America and the heart of jewelry retailers in Philadelphia. Located on Sansom Street between 7th and 8th and on 8th Street between Chestnut and Walnut, this area is rich in history and lined with family-owned jewelry businesses that have been around for generations.
Formerly Carstairs Row, Jeweler's Row was designed by Thomas Carstairs as part of the first housing development plan in the United States. His plans introduced the idea of row homes to the city - before, homes had been built individually. Working with William Sansom, Carstairs erected the buildings on the outskirts of Philadelphia. The flat expanse of the area and the paved roads made the buildings more attractive to business owners and customers alike.
Throughout the years, many alterations have been made to Jeweler's Row. While the buildings have changed cosmetically, their old-world charm remains. Jeweler's Row is the place to find a diamond ring in Philadelphia.
